One of the places I worked last year would take some of the old ones out and use them for target practice. The rest got taken out to the shop and had a spike driven through them. Those were the fun days.

This basically looks like the space under my desk here at home at the moment (though I have a bunch of IDE drives as well). Trying to go through and pull off any old data before I get rid of them, but sorting through stuff can be slow going. Possibly I should just go the lazy route of copying everything to new drives and assuming that my time is worth enough that actually taking the time to look at what’s there is not worthwhile.

That’s just one of the two stacks of SATA drives, with another shelf full of PATA drives still yet to be sorted through. Lots of Mac discs, especially in the PATA collection, so I need to rebuild my Hackintosh before just wiping out all of the data on those drives.

I remember hauling a bunch of full-height 5.25" 5 and 10 MB drives down to the e-waste place. They were too heavy to carry down the stairs in any great quantity so we decided to have a hard drive shot put competition off of my balcony. I won based on distance, but there was some talk of my being disqualified for hitting a tree and knocking off a limb or two...

I have a small shoe box of archived productions and raw footage on mostly 2-3 TB drives, almost 10 years worth now . I just got a nice new 2-bay thunderbolt drive dock from OWC so I can easily drop in whatever disks I need to use.
Also, Something something … the bandwidth of a station wagon full of hard disks …
